ETHNOGRAPHIC COLLECTION
Ethnographic collection keeps many objects which present rural life: various vessels for keeping and making food, tools for clothes production, room furnishings, clothes and furniture. The museum courtyard houses a traditional wooden house transferred from Marija Gorica and a barn next to it. A part of ethnographic collection is placed in the house interior. A distinct sub collection is works by self-taught sculptors, made in wood or plaster, mostly religiously themed. One of the best self-taught sculptors of the area was Josip Cerinski from Drenje. His most valuable work is on display in the Brdovec Museum: The Way of the Cross. Cerinski’s work was exhibited at the world exhibition of primitive art in Zagreb and in exhibitions in Austria, but he was only recognized after his death, so many of his works were lost. Besides Cerinski, in the permanent display there are also sculptures by Stjepan and Josip Sutlar, and Anton Gorupec.
